What to Do After an Eyebrow Disaster, According to the Pros
—Tiffany Dodson
When your brows get totally f’d up, the only question left is “what now?” We tapped brow experts Umbreen Sheikh of Wink Brow Bar [...] to give us some pro tips on what to do after a total eyebrow catastrophe. Don’t worry, your brows will be ready for their close-up in no time.
Step back from the mirror!
If you’re going to groom your own brows, Sheikh suggests standing at least 2 feet from a mirror when mapping out the hairs you’d like to remove. “When you start to use your tool, only pick the hairs that you can physically see from that far. Just remember if you get close, you won’t be able to see the true shape of your eyebrows coming out,” she says. “Also, use something to press them down in place (like Vaseline) before you actually start to remove. If your hairs are standing up and you accidentally think they need to be cleaned up when they don’t, then you can cause a brow disaster.”
Microblading can be a great option for sparse brows.
Both experts recommend microblading as an option for when brow hairs will no longer grow back. Microblading is a semipermanent way to fill in your brows. The process uses a small blade to deposit colored pigment just under the skin’s surface. The best part? The results can last up to a year or even longer in some cases, which means you can kiss your brow pencil goodbye. Sheikh suggests getting a good consultation from a microblading artist before committing to the process. “I like microblading because it solves a lot of problems for a lot of people,” she says. “It has to be done with caution, so you don’t want to go to anyone who hasn’t got an experienced background.”
